24 Buckwheat Ski Classic
A cross country ski race held on the fourth Saturday in March on the Log Cabin Ski Trails.  There are 50K, 25K and 10K adult races as well as a 5K for kids 12 and under.  Online registration begins in January on the race website.

Sustainable Skagway Summit

April 27 @ 3:00 pm - April 29 @ 5:00 pm

The Skagway Traditional Council is hosting it's first annual sustainability summit April 27-29, 2018. The theme of this years event is Small Change = BIG Results. The weekend summit will include a short film series on related topics, canning class, making natural home detergents, waste free kitchen class, bicycle repairs, garage sale, do it yourself reusable bag making, wild and garden grown apothecary demonstrations, and more.  A full schedule of events and sign up sheets will be available April.

By engaging the community, the Sustainable Skagway Summit will act as a  catalyst to encourage more sustainable practices, reduce waste, and create healthy life choices.

North Words Writers Symposium
The 9th annual North Words Writers Symposium will feature four days of panels, workshops, readings, and fun activities in Skagway and Dyea all centered around the writing craft. 2018 keynote author Susan Orlean, bestselling author of The Orchid Thief and Rin Tin Tin, will be joined by current Alaska State Writer Laureate Ernestine Hayes, Oregon novelist Willy Vlautin, and other notable Alaska/Pacific NW writers. Limited to first 40 participants who sign up.

2 Fran Delisle Cancer Awareness Walkathon
This beautiful walk follows the Dyea road along the scenic Taiya Inlet, through spruce forest to historic downtown Skagway. Volunteer staffed stations provide aid and treats along the way.  There is also a half walk, starting in Long Bay. $20 entry fee includes shirt and lunch.  All money raised by the walk provides cancer screenings and aid to Skagway residents diagnosed with cancer.

Sponsored by the Skagway Eagles Auxillary #25, the Skagway Emblem Club and the Fran DeLisle Cancer Awareness Fund.

10 Duff's Skagway Marathon
This new event will leave Skagway and run up the Dyea Road to West Creek and back, a distance of 26 miles.  The half marathon will leave Skagway and run up the Dyea Road and back, a distance of 13 miles.

4 Independence Day Festivities
Our July 4th celebration has been history making since Soapy Smith rode at the head of our first parade in 1898.  Old fashioned family fun day with races, contests, and events for all to enjoy.  Events include Slow Bike race, Pie Eating contest, Horseshoe Tournament and Egg Toss.  Fun begins at 8:00 am.

4 Ducky Derby
1500 little plastic duckies race to a finish line over a route that includes passing through 2 culverts, under railroad tracks, always in danger of getting caught in the trees lining the  bank and the water loving dog that likes to pursue them.  Grand prize (1st duck across the finish line) wins $1,000, 6 randomly pulled ducks will win $100 each.  Purchase a ticket for your duck then be close by to cheer him/her on.   CONTACT THE SKAGWAY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO PURCHASE YOUR DUCKY TICKET.

8 Soapy Smith's Wake
The con man of Skagway's Gold Rush days is toasted at an annual ritual started by Soapy's grandkids and the Day of '98 Show cast in the mid 1970's.  No guns allowed!!

SEPTEMBER  
7 - 8 Klondike Road Relay
A 110 mile relay race that begins in Skagway, Alaska on Friday and ends in Whitehorse, Yukon the next afternoon.  Teams of 10 members from all over the world compete in this event.  162 teams competed in 1998, some for the race experience and some just for fun (one Skagway team is named Muckrakers).
